Predecessor LocoRoco Cocoreccho!
Successor LocoRoco Midnight Carnival

LocoRoco 2 is the sequel to the original LocoRoco, and the third LocoRoco game overall. For the first time, all LocoRocos, creatures, locations, and music have their names revealed; except for MuiMui, Chuppa, and Moja since their names are already mentioned in the previous game, and Cocoreccho, since they were the namesake character of LocoRoco Cocoreccho!.

Many new characters and mechanics, as well as some new locations and minigames, are introduced as well.

Plot[]

Having successfully defeated the Moja Corps, both the LocoRocos and MuiMui settle back with their peaceful lives. However, Bonmucho, the Moja's boss, is not willing to accept defeat. So he devises a terrible song that can suck the life force out of all living things, as a new attack against the LocoRoco. Armed with this fearsome song, the Moja boarded their meteorite and set off once more on a mission to conquer the LocoRoco planet. Meanwhile, some of the LocoRoco stumble upon the new MuiMui house. Just then, the meteor comes crashing down onto a Nyokki, and the Mojas start their invasion again (sucking the life force out of living things and, as usual, eating LocoRoco). The LocoRoco then set off on an even more epic journey to restore the life force into all living creatures and defeat the Moja Corps.

Gameplay[]

L button - Tilt stage to the left.
R button - Tilt stage to the right.
Circle (tap) - Split big LocoRocos into smaller ones. Useful for passing through some gaps.
Circle (hold) - Merge smaller LocoRocos into bigger ones. Also used to swim in some occasions.

New features[]

  • Musical Notes
  • Unlockable moves, such as holding the O button in water to swim.
  • MuiMui House replaces the Loco House, which can also be enhanced by finding items.
  • Loco Stamp is a new minigame that allows the player to fill Stamp Sheets with Stamp collectables.
  • 3 different types of events can occur in a level after completing it the first time. The level can still be progressed normally, but additional rewards are given if the extra condition is met.
  • Now all LocoRocos can sing to the beat of "Moinoi Moinoi" in Perculoka, "Pupapu Poapoa" in Chapo-Wahr, "Aio Aio" in CaloCaro, "Yare Yare" in the Yamboona Tree, "Moro Mojya Nga" in Kelapton, and "Uwauwau" inside Domingo Mama unlike in the previous game. As for their respective character themes, they sing them in place of the usual tune when playing events, but are mainly present in the character select.
  • A new place called BuiBui Fort has been added, alongside its namesake species.
  • Some stages, such as Kelapton 1 and CaloCaro 2, change from day to night within a certain point of stage progression.
  • There are many FMV cutscenes found throughout the game, some relating to the plot of the game and some outside of the game progression's continuity.
  • More collectables, such as music notes, materials for the MuiMui House, and stamps for the Loco Stamp minigame.

Changed features[]

  • Dynamic stage music: Every stage music has 4 different variations, starting off simple and becoming more complex as the number of LocoRocos increases.
  • The loading on the bottom right corner is now a CD which replaces the LocoRoco.
  • The loading screen is now a MuiMui Expedition, which replaces the LocoRocos.
  • The Moja Song will play each time there is any species of Moja(besides Koja) around a radius of the LocoRoco.
  • The bottle that stores LocoRocos after completing the level has a redesign, now being more angular and has a subtle transparency effect.
  • The screen no longer zooms out during the LocoRoco's countdown before the goal Cheranka pops out. Instead, before the LocoRoco's countdown, the screen quickly zooms out viewing the whole scene of the goal with additional thick black horizontal borders on the top and bottom edges of the screen.
    • Also, once the Cheranka pops out, some LocoRocos that are near its entrance accordingly enter. Usually, though, only a few visibly go inside before the screen fades to the results screen.
  • The language selection menu before playing the game is changed.
    • In the first game, there were only 3 languages; English, Japanese, and Chinese. In LocoRoco 2, there is 12 more. This adds up to a total of 15(listed here in order of appearance): English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Danish, Finnish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.
    • These are also represented by the flags of their respective countries in the form of a 5×3 grid, instead of simple text with a horizontal toggle. Though, Chinese is still not represented by a flag.

Removed features[]

  • The Loco House is removed. The Loco House was replaced by the MuiMui House, as mentioned above.
  • The mini-game Loco Editor is removed as well.

Remastered Version[]

LoocoRoco 2 Remastered was released for the PS4 on December 9, 2017, which features trophies and 4K graphics.

The L and R controls for the PSP becomes L1 and R1 for the PS4 remastered version. One can also use the SixAxis motion sensing feature of the PS4 controller to tilt the stage instead of using L1 and R1 buttons.

Trivia[]

  • LocoRoco 2 is the only game where the Moja song will play each time there is any species of Moja around the radius of a LocoRoco (not counting Midnight Carnival, where the Moja song is only played during a boss battle).
    • Though, Koja don't trigger the song to play, likely as they act more as stage obstacles than enemies.
